Its strange, but in the begining it feels at some sections that the piano is fighting for the melody. Individually, each part seems very warm and full, but there is almost a dissidence.
Just doesn't resonate with me.

After listening to it a few times, I can see what you were trying to go for here; almost a pondering tune, am I right?

WingoWinston responds:

Yeah exactly very ponderingfull. I imagine Andy Dufrene (however that is spelled) from Shawshank Redemption (however that is spelled as well) strolling around to it.

I figure I could remake/remaster it with the piano just upped in power. I think its also due to the mix of two different plugins in terms of both the VST player and the VST's themselves. The piano was garritan the rest EWQL. So I'm thinking I should have adjusted for that but at the time I was working and just didn't have the willpower to do so haha.

Thanks for the review! :D

God, I would have LOVED to hear this mix in Portal 2. It sounds like Chell is having a party with all the turrets and gladOS wasn't invited.

A bit tedious at times, but the multiple filters really keep it fresh for the most part. THAT BREAK MADE ME CRY TEARS OF JOY. I LOVE it when the bass is cut for breaks and drums slash synths get a chance to shine.
As always, another visionary remix.

To be perfectly honest, I want to give a good and helpful critic of this song, but I can't find anything wrong with it.
The intro got me sufficiently excited and pumped for the rest of the song and the main automation really kept my interest throughout the entire song.
The bass was nice and deep. The throbbing line literally pulled the synth out and made it sound even more sweet than before.

A very musing piece.

TEACH ME HOW TO BAROQUE!

WingoWinston responds:

Listen to Bach. Then to more Bach. Then for some contrast listen to A little Beethoven, Chopin, and Schubert, and then back to Bach. Then some Corelli, Vivaldi, and Purcell. Specifically Corelli's "La folia" Violin Sonata in D minor and Pucells Harpsichord Suites... he has a billion of them.

Bach is the baroque king obviously :P But, early romantic stuff will be fairly similar.

One of the most important things to getting a "stereotype" baroque song is playing in a minor key really and making it sound deep and with sorrow, but with purpose. That would be your stereotype baroque in my mind haha.

I think this is better suited for the "Ambiance" or "Techno" genre rather than the "Classical" genre.

...just saying.

In other news, the build up around 1:05 is really fun. Literally pulled my attention right when I was passing it off as just random ambiance noises. I'd recommend a shorter intro though. Its all well and good when you have the listener's attention, but I think 60 seconds can cause people to lose interest rather quickly.

WHY THE HELL HASN'T ANYONE SAID ANYTHING YET?

I was sitting here, expecting some very horrible wannabe and overused bass line, but that drop hit me straight in the face.

I GOT SMACKED BY A FUCKING BASS LINE, GUIZE.

Seriously though, its a real solid mix. I wish it was longer, but this definitely warrants a download, 10 stars, 5 votes, and another visitation after my head unimplodes.

Superstrings responds:

wow thanks !

Definitely has potential.

Overall, it changes just enough to stay fresh and exciting through the song. Rising action had me worried for a moment, until the drop around the first minute mark.

After the first drop, I was expecting another bass or something deeper to come in. Right now, the song really needs some depth to it. The multiple layers and complex melodic rifts are a really good start (like REALLY good), but it still sounds flat.

Either a lower kick or (even better) a pulsing bass-line would do wonders.

delibrete responds:

I was actually considering to have an intense bass drop after the build up at the start, but since I'm using Linux Multimedia Studio, it's a lot harder to have something like that (I was thinking about making it a dubstep track, because that's what it sounds like when you hear the start).

It took me a long time to try and perfect the start, and then I worked on the rest. Maybe sometime in the future I'll turn this into a dubstep track once I figure out how to produce dubstep.

Thank you for your input :)

Just....beautiful. Simple and wonderful.

The flowing harp arpeggio really helps the song move.

HARPSICHORD AND, OH DEAR GOD, THOSE STRINGS. I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE THEM RIGHT NOW. asdfghjkl.

On a serious note, it is very airy and light, giving it a nice nostalgic or resentful tone which I absolutely adore. When I listen, I imagine a man thinking about someone that he lost long ago.

Also, the nice round effect you manage to create while only using the violins and...is that a flute I hear?

WingoWinston responds:

"So the usual intsruments, a kazoo, a triangle, and a comedic clown's whistle."

Harp, correct. Harp-C-Chord, correct. Violins, correct. Flute? Actually, French horn off in the background. Although unless you were thinking of something else, I find with certain reverb, the ensemble can become greater than the sum of its parts and a non-existent instrument may be heard :P.

Thank you so much for this awesome review.

Very "baroque" of you, sir.

It sounds very "Pachelbel Canon"ish in the beginning, but he was the godfather of baroque.

I love the harpsichord trill near the end.

To be honest, my only complaint is that it was too short. Can't find anything wrong with it. Would've been a 10 if you hadn't mentioned the worse instrument ever created in the description. *cough cough* burn cellos, burn *cough*
Violins all the way~

WingoWinston responds:

LOL! Cellos are awesome man!

Yeah well my "I know what it sounds like" comment was akin to the cannon :P
I'm totally down with harpsichord songs, when I make another one I'll send it your way... and use violins luls.

Soundgoodizer fixes everything.

Thank God for them Fruity Loops.

Anyway, the only thing is that the section at around 1:40 starts to get really disorientated for a bit too long. The melodic section following is so wonderful, but it really deserves a better introduction.

Overall, it seems very coherently thought out even for Industry/techno. (6/3)

You know those 90 babies that seem overloaded on drugs, sex, and booze? Well, that's not me at all. 0;3
